About Me
Erica E. Eckenhoff is a highly seasoned head trainer with 15 years of riding and equestrian experience. Her equestrian journey began during her junior career when she became involved in the United States Pony Club. She competed at Championships for several years and achieved a national rating of C3-H/B.
My equestrian achievements go beyond Pony Club and IEA. I've had the privilege of competing at various prestigious events and venues, showcasing my skills and dedication to the sport. At the Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival, I achieved an impressive 10th place overall. During my college years, I was part of the Three-Day Eventing team and the Intercollegiate Dressage Association Team in 2017. At the River Glen Horse Trials in Tennessee, I secured a fourth-place finish in both the individual and team divisions at the novice level, outperforming 20 other competitors and completing the event on my dressage score.
In the fall of 2019, I participated in The Devon Fall Classic with my off-the-track thoroughbred (OTTB) named Mister Twister, securing a notable fourth-place finish in the Thoroughbred Jumper Division for the weekend.
Throughout my equestrian journey, I've had the privilege of competing at renowned venues such as the Dixon Oval, the Kentucky Horse Park, Tryon International, and The Virginia Horse Center. Currently, I focus on competing in the Hunter/Jumper Divisions while also taking pride in training young horses and riders.
My passion for both riding and horsemanship is evident in my teaching approach. I strongly believe in not only imparting riding skills to my students but also educating them about horse mechanics and maintenance. My knowledge and understanding of horsemanship have been enriched by my experiences in Pony Club, competitions, and my five-year stint as a large veterinary technician.
Riders working with me can expect a strong emphasis on balanced seat, hands, and leg position, along with the overall harmony between rider and horse. Safety and horsemanship are of paramount importance, ensuring the well-being of both my students and the horses they ride. As a trainer, I act as an advocate for both the horse and the rider, and this holistic approach contributes to my students' growth and success in the equestrian sport.
